A segunda sessão das "Soulful Vibes" foi gravada na integra. Por isso mesmo e para quem não teve a oportunidade de ouvir em directo na passada Segunda-Feira, vamos colcar brevemente dispónivel para download as 2 horas de Sessão, que teve como intervinientes Dj Carlos Vargas e o guitarrista Jair Deodato aka Jay Soul. A noite correu bastante bem e desta vez optámos por introduzir algumas sonoridades Funky, Soul e Disco, antecipando já o final do ano. O Deep n'Soul Project vai estar no próximo dia 28 Janeiro em Lisboa, no Bar "Sítio do Cefalópode". o Sítio, local onde existe o bar e que outrora pertenceu a Ary Dos Santos fica situado no coração da Lisboa e apresenta um cartaz cultural muito rico, apostando em temas bastante originais e de alto teor cultural. Por isso mesmo queriamos agradecer a um grande colaborador do Deep n'Soul, João Banana, o convite para actuarmos ao seu lado num local tão especial. O Sítio tem um historial cultural já muito antigo e venham por isso preparados para aquela que vai com certeza ser uma noite muito especial para todos. Localização: O Sítio do Cefalópode fica no coração da Lisboa Antiga, muito perto do Castelo de São Jorge. Um pouco abaixo está o Miradouro de S.ta Luzia, o mais belo da cidade, com uma fabolosa vista sobre o casario da velha Alfama dos becos e ruelas, o Tejo e a margem sul.

História do Sítio: Este mesmo sítio pertenceu em tempos a José Carlos Ary dos Santos (que morava bem perto, na Rua da Saudade), em camaradagem com Fernando Tordo. Chamava-se então Cantador-Mor. A poesia e a música ficaram definitivamente entranhadas nas suas paredes. Várias mortes depois, quis a sorte que do mesmo sítio encarnasse um lupanar, e tão soberba desgraça só pode contribuir para a sua mística. Desse obscuro passado, a luxúria ficou, bem presente, entranhada nas suas paredes.
A poesia, a música, e a luxúria deste sítio, sente-se, mesmo que não se saiba. Desde o dia 28 de Outubro de 2005 o Cefalópode mora oficialmente no Sítio, e sente-se em casa.

nota:O melhor é mesmo fazer a viagem do eléctrico 28, o dos prazeres, saindo na paragem do Miradouro de S.ta Luzia. O percurso do 28 quase parece ter sido traçado para dar a conhecer a cidade histórica, seus bairros e suas gentes, e alguns dos seus principais edifícios. Vindo de Metro, sair na Baixa-Chiado, e apanhar o E28.
Há muitíssimos transportes que passam pelo Terreiro do Paço, por S.ta Apolónia, e alguns pela Rua da Alfândega, ou pelas redondezas do Campo de S.ta Clara, ou pelo bairro da Graça, que são zonas bastante próximas.

Parqueamento Automóvel: Para quem vem de carro, caso não encontre lugar, existe um silo para estacionamento recentemente construído junto ao miradouro, a funcionar 24 horas.

The first Deep n'Soul Project pres. Soulful Vibes was a real sucess. In this first live broadcasting, with Carlos Vargas on the controls of the turntables and Jay Soul in the guitar, we decided to travel through Soul routes, providing a selection of music that included remixes of names as Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, Patti Labelle, Donnie and many more. The 2 hours of live broadcasting started to flow while at the same time, many friends where showing their support via Soul Connection official Chat Room, MSN or mail. With his High resolution Stereo Sound and with the quality of their dj's, like Dave Cross, Alex Wheeler, Mark Anderson, Colin Sales, Ben Savitt and our "boss" Robert Hayes, Soul Connection FM is undoubtfully one of the most promissing House Music Web Radios of the new generation. Due to that, our expectations where high relating our first show. But it all went well. We particullary thank Robert Hayes, for giving us this oportunity of joining a fantastic crew and to all of the dj's that work with us at Soul Connection by their amazing support. The Deep n'Soul Project is preparing to make his debut in new years eve nights. The event is promoted by the Tennis Club of Figueira da Foz, and it will be a night of gastronomic flavours, celebration and glamour. In a private reveillon for over 80 people, our project will be in charge of providing the music. Carlos Vargas iniciou a sua carreira de Dj em Abril de 2001, actuando em pequenas festas e bares de amigos. O sucesso das festas levou-o a explorar a sua paixão pela música e a sua recente carreira era claramente influenciada por artistas como Stevie Wonder, Chacka Khan, George Benson, Lee Ritenour entre muitos outros, que o ajudaram a criar um estilo muito próprio que viaja entre o Soul e Disco, cruzando-se com as raízes do Funky e Jazz, criando ambiências de grande glamour e sensualidade. Ao seu estilo muito peculiar, Carlos Vargas junta um bom gosto muito especial, muito por culpa das influências musicais que lhe moldaram esse mesmo gosto musical. Em Junho de 2002 consegue a sua primeira residência, na sua terra Natal, Figueira da Foz conseguindo criar uma noite exclusivamente dedicada ao House, numa zona nocturna onde este estilo de música tinha muitas dificuldades em se implantar.

Começa então a tocar como Dj convidado por vários pontos do país, marcando a diferença pelo seu eclectismo musical. Começa também a ser presença assídua em After Hours no Norte do país, actuando juntamente com o Dj britânico Phil Dunn . Em 2003 é convidado para assumir uma residência no Forte Bar, da Figueira da Foz, um Open Air Bar com capacidade para mais de 1000 pessoas, onde começa a tocar de forma regular, ao mesmo tempo que continua o seu périplo como Dj convidado de várias casas do país, destacando-se passagens por casas como a Look, Boombastik, Heart & Soul, Club San Miguel, Deep Lounge, Esplanada do Alex, Chic e Mistique entre outras. 2003 é também o ano em que Carlos Vargas, juntamente com o seu amigo de infância Jair Deodato decide criar o Deep n’Soul Project, um conceito que visa a interacção de sonoridades acústicas e electrónicas ao vivo e em estúdio, além da componente da produção, estando a trabalhar no primeiro EP do projecto, intitulado “Wild”, com lançamento previsto para o fim do ano.

Em 2004 é convidado para fazer sets para a Canadiana Style Network, uma das mais proeminentes web radios mundiais, colocando o seu trabalho ao lado de compilações de artistas como Hed Kandi, Mark Farina, Reel People, Derrick Carter e Dj Spinna entre outros, conseguindo mesmo atingir o restricto Top 10 da rádio. Graças á Style Network, o seu trabalho chega aos 4 cantos do mundo, atraindo a atenção do conhecido Dj e produtor Robert Hayes, que o convida para integrar o restricto line up da Web Rádio Britânica Soul Connection, onde juntamente com Jair Deodato actua ao lado de Dj’s como Dave Cross, Alex Wheeler, Tony Scully, Paul Aaron, Colin Sales, Citizens of Soul, Layers of Sound e Doctor H, entre outros, conduzindo um programa de 2 horas em directo. Carlos Vargas has been involved in the House music scene since April 2000, when he began his DJ career at a small party for friends. The success of the event led him to further explore his passion for the music and his early career was aided by his several musical influences like Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, Chacka Khan, George Benson, Lee Ritenour and many more, who definatly helped him to create his own style, that travels from Soul to Disco, crossing the roots of Funky and Jazz. His popular style of music includes a broad blend of styles, using different songs to create music that flows seamlessly through the night.

In 2003, alongside with his long date friend and guitarist Jay Soul, Carlos Vargas decides to create the Deep n’Soul Project, a concept that would allow Dj’s to perform live with musicians. Currently they travel all around the country, promoting the live interaction between dj’s and musicians. While Vargas has been heard at numerous venues and events, he can be found every saturday night as the resident DJ at Dinn’s Lounge Bar, a local bar at his hometown, Figueira da Foz. In addition to his work in Portugal, Carlos Vargas is also featured in Soul Connection Fm, the popular English based Web Radio and at the Canadian Style Network, hosting weekly live shows on both. In addition to his DJ career, DJ Carlos Vargas is also producing and he is currently working with Jay Soul on the 1st release of the Deep n’Soul project.

Juntos formaram também a Label "Deep n'Soul Records", na qual pretendem incluir todo o seu potencial criativo, numa tentativa de trazer ao House uma nova vida. Professional musician since very young, Jair is one of the founders of the Deep n'Soul project. Musician of nacional credits, worked for four years in the Casino Estoril, where he worked with some of the best names of the Portuguese music. His seek for new musical experiences and sonorities took him, alongside with Carlos Vargas, to iniciate a revolucionary project, joining eletronic sounds with acoustic, live and in Studio. Together they made the Label "Deep n'Soul Records", in wich they pretend to include all of their crative potential, in an attempt to bring a new meaning to House music. Returning from a Tour trough Europe, where he worked with many renamed artists, he is back home to continue to develop his ideas. With several gigs already booked with the project for the Winter, he will surely be one of the atractions of the Portuguese Night.

Deep n'Soul Project @ Perfumaria Bar (Review)

Era sem dúvida uma ocasião especial. A Perfumaria, uma das casas mais antigas de Portugal fazia 25 anos e a data foi comemorada com pompa e circunstância. O nosso trabalho era providenciar a música. Perante uma casa completamente lotada, com faixas etárias completamente diversas a festa durou até perto das 4 da madrugada. Foi uma noite inesquecível para todos os que se deslocaram a este espaço tão carismático. Quanto a nós, ficou a promessa de voltarmos. Deixamos aqui algumas fotografias. Afinal, não é todos os dias que temos o previlégio de fazer o aniversário de uma casa tão antiga.

It was a very special night. Perfumaria Bar, one of the oldest of Portugal was celebrating 25 years of existence, and the Deep n'Soul Project was in charge of the music. The Bar was completely full, with very different ages among the costumers but the party lasted untill 4 in the morning. It was an unforgetable night for everyone that went to one of the most carismathic bars in Portugal. As for us, a return was promissed. We leave here some photos for all the regular customers that couldnt make it. After all, its not everyday that we can celebrate the birthday of such an old bar.

Soulful House Icons vol.2 : Tony Humphries

Tony Humphries has entertained dance music fans across the globe with his “Hump-in-the-Homefries” brand of uptempo soul music. This Brooklyn, New York native landed his first “professional” DJ gig at Manhattan’s posh Club El Morocco in 1975. From there Tony’s trek to Boystown a.k.a. Club Tribeca NY, NY would prove successful, where he was then recognized as a talented DJ.

In July 1981, producer Shep Pettibone asked Tony for a mastermix show tape to fill in for a no show on his KISS-FM NY radio show. A vacancy left by Pettibone at the station opened the door for his own permanent mix show. Simultaneously, schooled under the “I’ll-leave-you-in-the-booth-and-see-what-happens” antics of resident DJ Larry Patterson of NJ’s Club Zanzibar fame, resulted in him gaining “THE” residency in 1982.

Developing his creative experiences behind the recording studio’s control board only enhanced his style and magic. Artists like Mtume (Tonys’ first gold record “Juicy Fruit”), Chaka Khan, Karen White, Regina Belle, Donna Summer, Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah, and The Cover Girls were all governed by the “Humphries handicraft”.

By the mid to late 80’s, Tony became the sole helmsman weaving the tunes three nights a week, thus making dance music superstars out of local talent embedded in the heartland of Newark and her surrounding areas. Summoned across the Atlantic by the British in 1987. The “Jersey Sound” was coined by their press. In addition to traveling, remix projects mounting, pumping out a weekly radio mix show, and holding down the fort at the club, Tony was in his prime making the world of dance music exciting, hip, and refreshing.

By November 1990, his 8 year tenure ended with a tearful refrain, but this didn’t discourage Tony as he became in demand worldwide and relocated to London, England. In January of 1993, Tony took up the offer to be the resident jock at the Ministry of Sound club. That year was rounded off with a residency at “Echoes” in Rimini, Italy. This Italian residency continued for 4 years while simultaneously relocating back in NJ to launch his Yellorange Production Co.

It can be said that Tony Humphries has left an unerasable impression on the global dance music industry. To date over 300 venues he has gigged worldwide, done over 200 studio remixes, the latest being Janet Jackson’s hit “Together Again”. Throughout tremendous recognition, tons of awards and accolades from his peers, he has remained humble.

O Deep n'Soul project vai estar na Perfumaria Bar no próximo dia 26. A ocasião é o aniversário da Perfumaria, que conta já com 25 anos de existência. Aquela que é uma das mais antigas casas da noite da Figueira Foz comemora as bodas de prata, e para isso decidimos responder ao convite que nos foi feito para animar a noite com um line-up muito especial.

A festa contará com a presença de várias figuras importantes, além da comunicação Social, o que servirá para dar ainda um carácter mais glamouroso á ocasião, por isso já sabe que contamos com a sua presença. Não são muitas as casas que se podem gabar de completar 25 anos de funcionamento, por isso mesmo o projecto Deep n'Soul endereça os parabéns ao gerente da casa, Jorge Marques.

Following the development line of our Blog, we have decided to launch the Deep n'Soul Web Radio, that will offer everyone the oportunity of streaming live the Sets of the Dj's of our project, live and in studio.
